Doe-Sherif

Madam Geraldine Doe-Sherif was born on February 14, 1967 in Harper City, Maryland County onto the Union of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Olandrous Doe Sr. The Senator is the sixth (6th) of eight siblings, a mother, a wife, and a Humanitarian.

She is a Christian by the Catholic Faith. She began her Christian ethics and education at Our Lady of Fatima Elementary, Jr. & Senior High School in Harper City, Maryland County. She obtained her High School Diploma with distinction (Valedictorian) in 1985 from the Bishop Ferguson High School, a prestigious Christian ethics school owned by the Episcopal Church in Harper City, Maryland County, the Republic of Liberia. She later migrated to Monrovia, Montserrado County in the same year in pursuit of higher education. A few years later, she obtained a certificate from the National Clerical Training Institute, specialized in Executive Secretarial Science as her first profession in 1988.

Having completed her first professional studies, she saw the need to go to college where she succeeded to have earned a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) with distinction in Management and emphasis in Public Administration in 2006 from the state owned university, the University of Liberia. Seeing the sky as her limit, as she always said, in furtherance, she pursuit another, and obtained a Master of Arts (MA) Degree in International Relations from the University of Liberia Graduate program (IBB) in 2012.

She began her political career with the Vanguard Students Unification Party (SUP); a campus based political party at the University of Liberia. Whilst with the vanguard party, she served as the Chairperson of the Progressive Seniors in 2004 at the University of Liberia. Her simplicity as a person has won her many admirations and popularity to be the first Female President of a senior class 2005/2006 at the state owned University, the University of Liberia.

In Liberia contemporary politics, she is being referred to as the “Lady Jacob N’Zuma” of Liberia whilst the New Broom News Paper refers to her as the Liberian Political “Maradona’’.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Madam Doe-Sherif has been serving in both public and private sectors including:

The Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC), she also worked for the FIRST INTERNATIONAL MERCHANT BANK, African Plaza, Liberia, the Liberia Football Association (LFA), the Liberia Basketball Federation etc.

As a Cadet in National politics, she became one of the founding members of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change aka (CDC) where she served as the first National Vice Chairman for Operations from 2005 – 2008. She subsequently became the National Chairman of that major opposition political party from 2009 to 2011.

She was firstly elected as Senator in a by-election to the 52nd Legislature on the emblem of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in 2009. She also got re-elected with 62% of the total number of votes cast because of her strong advocacies for the voiceless; thus giving her the popular mandate from the people of Montserrado in the 2011 general and presidential elections to serve in the 53rd Legislature.

At the Liberian Senate, the Senator chaired the Committee on Transport; and member of various committees in the 52nd/53rd Legislature including. Co-Chair on Commerce, Co-Chair on Gender, Development, Women & Children Protection; Member; Ways, Means, Finance & Development; Insurance and Pension; Public Accounts; Education and Public Administration; and Permanent Representative, International Parliamentary Union (IPU). Co-Chair for International Affairs for the Women legislative Caucus and Co-Chair for the Montserrado County Legislative Caucus.

She also served as the Secretary General of the Women Legislative Caucus, Member of Montserrado County Legislative Caucus, Chairman of the majority block and one of the strong voices in the Liberian Senate.

She served as a Panelist for SHEROS in Ghana.

She also attended the United Nations International Women Summit in the USA as Representative for the Liberian Women Legislative Caucus.

In 2014, she established the Geraldine Doe-Sherif Empowerment Foundation which caters to Women, Children, and Disadvantaged Adolescent Girls etc.

Since its establishment, the foundation has been able to cater to over 4,000 Beneficiaries including Women, Children, and disadvantaged Adolescent Girls through Micro-Finance Loans, Scholarships, Medicare, and other Social Welfare.

In December 2015, The Foundation partnered with Orphan Concern Liberia in restoring hopes to Ebola left orphans and survivals by providing clothing, nutritional food and open a Special Account to take care of their needs, since in fact they were highly strike by the deadly Ebola virus.

December 2016, the foundation put smiles on the faces of seventeen less fortunate children representing the seventeen electoral distracts of Montserrado County by providing Christmas gifts and awarding them scholarships

She also adapted seventeen year old orphan (Abraham Gayeh) of the Orphan Concern Liberia.  In 2017, the Foundation appointed Liberian Gospel musician Minister Miracle A. Ketter as Ambassador.

On July 26, 2016 Liberia Independence Day’s celebration, she served as the Guest Speaker for the Liberians residing in Brussels, Belgium.

  • The Senator supported the passage of numerous bills which include but not limited to:
  • The African Youth Chapter
  • Bill to grant students loans for higher education
  • APM Terminal Liberia (Ltd).
    • She has introduced some bills styled and named.
  • An act to make corruption a non billable offence for public official”.
  • An act to enable Liberians implement and give effect to its obligations under the Rome statute of the international criminal court and for related matters”.
  • An act to create Beygbor-gbaweah chiefdom in Montserrado County which  has been passed into law by the Senate and sent to the Honorable House of Representatives for concurrence. The Non Billable bill was introduced on the floor of the Liberian Senate in June 2011; even though still pending in committee room because of its sensitive nature.
  • Co-chaired the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill at the Liberian Senate and most interestingly, it was passed under her gable.

The Senator has travelled extensively to many countries for trainings at Congress in the United States of America and seminars while representing the Liberian Senate.

She was awarded the following including:

  • Certificate: from the National Time News Paper and the Strategic Journalists Committee as the best Senator of the year 2015.
  • Certificate: from the Media Alliance (ProMA) for her tireless effort and her financial contributions to the Montserrado student’s community, the Vanguard Students Unification Party (SUP) and the all times assessable Senator.
  • Certificate: from the House Democracy Partnership/ USAID for strengthening committee in the Legislature, Washington DC, USA.
  • She received similar Certificates for strengthening committee in the Legislature from the following countries which include: South Africa, Uganda, Gambia, Turkey, Tanzania, Kenya, Switzerland, Ghana, Thailand etc.
  • She was awarded the Mother Victoria N.B. Young Humanitarian annual Award for the year 2017.
  • She was gowned and certificated by the Women of Kollah Foundation (A women Empowerment Foundation) for her Humanitarian contribution towards the women foundation.

 

Soko Dorley

Mr. Soko Dorley is Board Chairman of the Geraldine-Doe Sherif Empowerment Foundation. As Chairman, he has oversight responsibility to run the day to day affairs of the board in enhancing the general and thematic objectives of the board as it relates to mandatory functions of the foundation.

As a Liberian who is goal-driven, Mr. Doreley is capable and qualified to serve as chair because he has the needed educational and working experience, and has gone through the necessary training at the following institutions of learning:

  2. College of Staten Island (CSI) – Certificate in Quick Books/New York
  3. H&R Block Tax Services – Certificate in Personal & Corp. Tax Preparation/New York

Mr. Dorley is a Liberian businessman and entrepreneur with businesses both in the United States and Liberia, West Africa. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Quick Return INC, a tax preparation business entity located on Staten Island, New York. In addition to the above, Mr. Dorley has also had the privilege to work with the following entities:

  2. Supervisor for Client Services - Stella Orton Home Care/USA

He is action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative with a candid approach to project planning/implementation. He has the ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. He is authentic, Passionate, and idealistic. He has a strong written and verbal communication skills; he is a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary administrative skills. A man of integrity, he has a positive attitude, is mission-driven, and goal-directed; and he brings a wealth of experience and dignity to the Geraldine-Doe Sherif Empowerment Foundation as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

He has the charisma and wherewithal borne out of passion and love for the well-being of children and women around the world.
